Russian Missiles Hit Kyiv as Moscow Names Its Abu Dhabi Talks Team
KYIV — Russian missiles struck the Ukrainian capital early on Saturday, damaging a five-storey apartment building in a western district and a building housing a kindergarten, just three days before United States-led peace talks are due to open in Abu Dhabi, according to Kyiv officials.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko said debris from the attack struck the apartment block and damaged the facade of a second residential building. The city's military administration said two people were injured. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had warned in his Friday night address that Russia was preparing a new wave of strikes on energy targets, bridges and other infrastructure.
The strike came hours after Moscow named its team for the Abu Dhabi talks on Tuesday and Wednesday, the first trilateral meeting since February. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the Interfax news agency that the delegation will be led again by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky and will include Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov for the first time, alongside Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, military intelligence chief Igor Kostyukov and senior General Staff officer Yury Zhigarlovsky. President Vladimir Putin met the delegation on Friday at a Security Council session devoted to the talks. Ukraine's team will be led by foreign intelligence chief Rustem Umerov, according to Kyiv officials, with United States envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner expected to mediate. President Donald Trump, after meeting Putin envoy Kirill Dmitriev, said a deal to end the war was within reach.
The peace talks are the fourth round brokered by the Trump administration, following meetings in Abu Dhabi in January and Geneva in February. European governments will not take part, with the Kremlin insisting the format stays trilateral, and the fighting continues alongside the diplomacy.
